Individual Counselling

Individual counselling is a place to have dedicated support with the parts of life that feel difficult, overwhelming, or uncertain. Sessions can focus on a specific concern or on broader changes you would like to make in how you feel, think, or relate to yourself and others.

Whether you are seeking support for something that has been weighing on you for a long time or are adjusting to something more recent, counselling can provide space to work through it.

You May Be Here Because...

Sometimes there is a clear reason you are looking for counselling. Other times, it can be harder to put your finger on what is going on. You may know that something feels off, that you are struggling in a way you have not before, or that you are ready for something to change.

You may be:

  • Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally drained

  • Struggling with self-worth, confidence, or how you see yourself

  • Finding it difficult to set boundaries or say no

  • Putting a lot of pressure on yourself or feeling like you are never doing enough

  • Navigating a significant change or transition

  • Experiencing difficulties in your relationships

  • Carrying the effects of difficult or painful experiences

  • Feeling stuck in patterns that you understand but cannot seem to change

  • Unsure of what you need or where to begin

What We Can Work On

The focus of counselling will depend on what brings you in and what you would like support with. Some areas we may explore include:

Self-Worth, Identity & Perfectionism

Exploring how you see yourself and the expectations you place on yourself. This may include self-criticism, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or feeling like you need to have everything under control.

Relationships & Boundaries

Looking at relationship patterns, boundaries, communication, and the ways you respond to the needs and expectations of others. We can explore how to better understand and express your own needs while maintaining relationships that matter to you.

Anxiety & Emotional Well-Being

Making sense of anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm, or feeling disconnected from yourself. We can explore what you are experiencing and what may help you feel more able to navigate difficult emotions.

Life Transitions

Finding your footing during periods of change or uncertainty. This might include changes in relationships, work, identity, family, or other circumstances that leave you wondering what comes next.

Trauma & Difficult Experiences

Exploring experiences that continue to affect you in the present. This may include the ways difficult experiences have influenced your sense of self, relationships, emotions, or everyday life.

What You Might Hope to Get From Counselling

Everyone comes to counselling with different goals. You may want to feel less overwhelmed, understand yourself more clearly, improve your relationships, or feel more confident in the choices you make.

Depending on what you are looking for, counselling may help you:

  • Better understand your emotions, needs, and responses

  • Recognize patterns that you would like to change

  • Develop greater confidence in setting boundaries and expressing yourself

  • Respond to yourself with more understanding and less self-criticism

  • Navigate difficult emotions and experiences

  • Make decisions that feel more aligned with what matters to you

  • Develop new ways of relating to yourself and others

  • Feel more grounded during periods of change

Counselling is not about becoming a different person. It can be an opportunity to understand yourself more clearly, make sense of what you have been experiencing, and decide what you want to do from there.

What to Expect

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and talk about what brought you to counselling. You do not need to arrive with a clear plan or know exactly where to begin.

As we continue, sessions will be shaped around what feels most relevant to you. Some sessions may focus on something that happened recently, while others may involve looking at a longer-standing concern or pattern.

You may find that some sessions involve talking through what is happening in your life, while others involve slowing down and paying closer attention to your emotions, thoughts, or responses. The focus can shift as your needs change.

You are not expected to have the right words or know exactly what you need. We can start with where you are and figure things out from there.

Is Individual Counselling Right for You?

You do not need to be in crisis or have a diagnosis to seek counselling. You may be at a point where something feels difficult, has changed, or is no longer working the way it once did.

You may also be doing relatively well and simply want support with something you are navigating or a part of yourself you would like to understand better.

If you are unsure whether counselling is the right fit, that is okay. Reaching out can simply be the first step in exploring whether working together makes sense.
